Peter Barron
From his own life experiences, Peter became politically active in his 20s and is passionate about equality and social justice. He believes good quality housing and early education are fundamental rights and something that current social policy has excluded many people from.
SHAP for Peter is a way to both correct some of those injustices and argue for a fairer way forward at a policy level.
After Peter completed his degree in Psychology he started as a children’s residential worker in 1988 and completed his Diploma and then Masters in Social Work in 1991 and 1992, during which time he fostered teenagers.
Peter has managed children’s homes for Liverpool City Council and set up the after care team before moving to senior management roles in children, adults and central services (covering training, policy and commissioning). He was also Operational Director in Halton for older people’s services, where he chaired the local adult’s safeguarding board, before moving to NHS Warrington as Head of Joint Commissioning.
Peter left the statutory sector to build and run a small group of children’s day nurseries and undertake freelance consulting including as Principal at Nugent House School. Peter continues in a consultancy role as Responsible Individual for a group of children’s homes in St Helens and provides support to a range of children’s homes, nurseries and social care businesses.
